Launching an Airline

The situation

Global Airlines is a soon-to-launch airlines based in the UK. I joined the team to help design an abundance of users flows including booking, sign up/sign in, check out and loyalty/rewards.

Global Airlines already had some branding established but the the brand was evolving.

We needed to create user flows that accounted for booking flights and all the edge cases that come with it.

We worked collaboratively with the branding team to make sure the app stayed in lock step with the overall brand.

Many user flows

Because of the sheer number of flows and screens, we had to be smart about utilizing components while concurrently updating elements to stay in lock step with the overseas brand team.

The process

We had weekly design sprints ending in meetings with the client to walk through each flow.

We ended each week collaborating with the client in Figma.

Our walkthroughs were helpful to step outside of our shoes and see if there were any edge cases unaccounted for.

After each client meeting we would spend a couple days making adjustments and working towards the next milestone.

Multiple considerations

Airline apps have multiple considerations. The basic requirements of destinations, type of flights and number of passengers were just the tip of the iceburg with many many edge cases once you roll in the different classes of ticket types and rewards statuses.

Work smarter

The client was undecided on the experience as an app or web app so we designed a system that would work for both. We designed mobile-first but also provided desktop designs as a contingency plan.

Loyalty membership

Taking loyalty membership into consideration greatly added complication to the flows. Membership tiers and reward points greatly affected the checkout flow and/or what amenities would be included.

Results

I spent 2+ years working at Feelmore Labs and went from being a freelance UI motion designer to VP of Creative. In that span we successfully launched Cove to the world, raised additional funding, featured at Ted Talk and saw steady user adoption.

Global Airlines is set to take off in 2026

We finished all of the user flows and handed the work off to the client. We look forward to seeing the live version of the experience.
